Recommend a host!!
A few years ago I asked on here for advise on a domain host thingy. Several of you recommended Orchard so that's who I bought owelly.co.uk off.
I never got the hang of websites so never got around to building one but used it as my webmail thingy. I paid them every couple of years and things
have been fine. Until the other day when my emails stopped working via Office or Horde. I remembered the alternative email login details I used as my
contact emails and sure enough, they had sent me emails explaining that they were switching the servers off on the 3rd of June and no longer hosting.
Slightly annoying as I only paid them for the next 24 months subs a few weeks ago!!
Anyhoo, what happens now? What's happened to my domain? Where are my emails going? How do I get them back? All this stuff is way beyond my tiny
little brain....
TIA!

If youve paid them for 2 years hosting I would expect you would want a refund, it looks like you domain is registered to you until 15-april 2015 so
that is secure but you will need to transfer to a new host.
If you didnt pay a lot for the 2 years it could be that you were just paying the registration frees and getting some free hosting.
If they have turned off all the servers then emails sent to you will I believe possibly get sent back to the senders as they wont be able to resolve
the destination without the hosts DNS servers being on.
Best people to speak to would maybe be orchard themselves, you can find some free web hosts and then just transfer your domain to their
"TAG" from Orchard.
You may also be able to contact http://www.Nominet.org.uk they deal with all .uk domain registrations.

PS your emails are (hopefully) queuing up somewhere but may be bouncing...
Just done a quick test and not got a bounce...
If you're lucky, they'll be quietly queuing on a mailserver waiting for delivery...in which case (if you're lucky) it should all
kick in shortly after you've moved hosts...

PS if they don't then they're probably lost for good...but I sent an email to you 5 minutes ago and it's not bounced yet...so remain
hopeful...

Orchard recommended Clook. I've moved to them and all seems well so far?
Clook can do all the leg work for you. Gave them the login details and they moved the lot. No downtime and a faster service too.

Bounces from uncontactable servers I think take longer, if it had found a server and didnt recognise the mailbox it would bounce straight back, I
think there is a time allowance in for uncontactable servers.

Precisely...and if the DNS changes in the meantime, they *might* start delivering the mail to the new ones...

From what I can see, £5/month vs £7/yr .... with first year free?
For pure email, I'd go with Godaddy...

> set type=mx
> owelly.co.uk
Server: cache1.service.virginmedia.net
Address: 194.168.4.100
Non-authoritative answer:
owelly.co.uk MX preference = 0, mail exchanger = owelly.co.uk
owelly.co.uk internet address = 109.235.149.16
owelly.co.uk doesn't appear to be listening so it'll be queuing on the outbound mailservers waiting for it to come back....
Got answer:
HEADER:
opcode = QUERY, id = 2, rcode = NOERROR
header flags: response, want recursion, recursion avail.
questions = 1, answers = 1, authority records = 0, additional = 0
QUESTIONS:
owelly.co.uk, type = A, class = IN
ANSWERS:
-> owelly.co.uk
internet address = 109.235.149.16
ttl = 14106 (3 hours 55 mins 6 secs)
TTL looks like it's set to 4 hours...so that's the max time it will take to transfer once initiated and setup..

Orchard Hosting have ceased trading so it would be more than optimistic to think going to be switching on a new server, ------- you ideally need
to dig out the Nominet registration certificate for your domain.
A quick Nominet whois reveals the domain is still safely registered in your name until 25th March 2015
The info you need to change hosting from a defunct hosting company is here
Nominet Change from Defunct Registrar
A £10 fee is required where the old host is not cooperating with the new hosting company.
LCN provided the type of minimal hosting and mail re-direct you require very cheaply.
