Acer monitor: input not supported

dell e6400 laptop and acer monitor.

I am trying to get the monotir to display the laptop screen when lid is closed but get "input not supported".

I have set power option - lid closed = do nothing. Also configured the display so I know the laptop can be dispalyed oon the monitor.

Strange thing is that when I power up the laptop - it is fitted in a docking station with lid closed, I see the black windows boot screen and progress bar and then after a short while, the message.

Also I am unable to get an exact copy on both screens. right now on laptop I have I.E. window and nothing else; on the monitor I see my desktop with short cuts, menu bar, widgets .... the mouse moves to the montir screen when moved off the right of laptop screen.

Totally stumped as to what the problem is - now I am not 100% sure but the lid close/input not supported message started to appear when I changed monitor frequency from 60 to 75 Hz - it is notwshown as 60 Hz but issue still there.

The resolution is probably set too high for the monitor, try turning it down. Is it windows 7 or xp, you have extended desktop turned on if you can move the mouse out of the screen, you either want to set it to duplicate or monitor only. Normally you can change which screen you want to use by using fn and one of the f keys normally f4 or f5
