microsoft xp
What have microsoft done to XP???
I have some old machines running XP - 2 laptops they will never be upgraded to win7 or 8 as I use them to run old workshop software - manuals etc and
ODB diagnostic stuff which won't run on win 7 even in compatibility mode.
I have 3 machines in the office which are running XP and I will replace one soon and install win7 on the others
Every single one of them has run well for years - rock steady with no blue screens etc.
first any of these machines with microsoft security essentials still on it at the end of support for XP promptly refused to run any more until MSE was
uninstalled.
then in the last couple of weeks all of these machines have started to suffer from 'serious system errors' and the Blue screen of death
every couple of days.
they can't all be going wrong on their own so what the hell is going on? have microsoft 'spiked' xp so that every one thinks their
pc has given up and is forced to upgrade?
It looks like that from where I am - has anyone else seen this or is it just me?

Yep - noticed the same - as soon as xp went EOL security essentials barf'd and kept causing blue screens and inability to log in.
Surely they wouldn't have coded a countdown timer into the software to force you to shell out more of your hard earned cash ??
This will happen with windows 7 in a few more years - you see what happens, but we won't care because we will all be using our chrome books or
macs

Should be using them since April as they will begin to be riddled with vulnerabilities
Get rid mate
That said most cash machines run on xp lol

we've still got loads of XP machines - until the end of this week at least
other than the nagging 'windows xp isn't supported anymore' message they all run fine
but we don't run MSE

we have loads of machines still running xp at work. no blue screens. however no security essentials.
If the machines are off the internet, then you have no problems.
I would say you should be fine, be careful on what you open/run if on the internet, use known websites, install avast a/v (I say avast as in my
experience for xp on older machines it is a bit more lightweight) and keep on using xp.
Be aware that office 2003 also end of lifed too.
It is very frustrating that we have to change from a perfectly fit for purpose OS for what we want it to do.....
another method that may help protect you on the internet is to see what family protection rules your isp will let you turn on, this may prevent you
wandering to some dodgy sites accidentally. I also have used spybot search and destroy to immunize the system. this blocks access to a known list of
bad websites...

my garage laptop is still running windows 2k, and I've still got a DOS 6.2 / win 95 machine somewhere if I need it
