adding an Avatar

Can anyone offer any help on how I add the Avatar pictures please?

So far I've saved a picture in my photobucket which is 150 pixels wide
Opened up the edit profile page and copied pasted the link to the picture where it says add link

I've tried these three image formats but none of them seem to work

Try prong the picture onto LCB itself and see if that works. My image is a gif. I think others work as well.
