my monitor is making cracking noises like a fly getting zapped at your local kebab shop,is it likley to explode in a ball of flames , die quietly in its sleep or keep on going

Any of the three...

They usually crack when you turn them on/off due to the static. But not usually when they are on

Sounds like you have a interminttent short in there (unless it is flies!) It'll probably just die all of a sudden (usual disclaimers apply!) There are some good deals around at the moment for TFT (thin film technology) screens - I still prefer the old CRT's though, less exhausting on the eye's me thinks.

Is it degaussing itself, some do. There could be something on the same circuit switching on and off.

its random noise,usually when it warms up a bit,pic remains steady tho,ill have a look round for a monitor then,wheres best shop?
