PS2 still makes me think of ancient IBM Desktop PCs with non-IBM standard expansion slots.

The PS1 would last for years and imo was bulletproof. I know people still running them from when they first came out. PS2 seems pretty fragile to me. I look after all of my stuff, even so i'm on PS2 no. 2 and my mate's on his third!!

Yep main prob with the ps2 is the Fan .It sucks all the dust and crap in to the unit which gets everywere inclueding on the lense.

I usually manage to recover 50% of units just with a good clean..

Simptoms start with not playing blue discs or Dvd's and slowly getting worse.

The newer slim line version has a change in design ,back to the psx/ps1 dessign with a flip lid..

I had a problem with mine, found out how to clean and reset it from instructions I got off ebay for a few quid, but it still didn't work.

But I noticed in the instructions it said you could try different settings depending on if the unit was being used horizontally or vertically.

So I turned it 90 degrees into the vertical position and it has been no trouble for the past 18 months!
