Trojan.startpage and another virus
Ok, one of my friends has had ads popping up on her Pc. We installed Norton Anti Virus but it has not got rid of it. It sits here: C\programme
files\Com....\wcxgg32.dll
and it's called Trogan.StartPage and it is a pop up thingy so we think. Any idea how to get rid?
Also
There is a virus that re directs web pages to 'Search for...' It also has this search page as the default page in explorer and you can not
change the default start page in the settings as it just goes back to the search for... page. The page in the address field is about:blank
Any ideas

Popular one this Andy... use msconfig to stop it starting ;-S (staurtup procedure - uncheck it, second or third option down)
Use Adaware/hijack this to remove them...
Both software's available from our website and are free. Oh and using firefox as your browser will stop the effect of it!

Thanks, sounds good is it the 'load startup items' ?
if so do i then use the adware to get rid then after a re-boot put the tick back in?
Also I have downloaded the files and tried to open them but winzip says i need a password?????

No....
Once you have unticked it in MSCONFIG restart your computer then use adware (or whatever) to get rid of it...Once it's gone there
shouldn't be a tick box for it in MSCONFIG anymore.
And before you ask yes I've had this one several times myself, I don't know where your friend got it but I picked mine up from imesh.
If you don't have a programe to get rid of this you should be able to delete it manually from her C drive AFTER you have stopped it running via
MSCONFIG and restarted her computer..... It will leave a marker in the registry but that shouldn't cause any problems.

Of course it goes wthut saying turn off system restore before trying to clear any malware.
