RAM problem

Hi, I was given a PC today, worked fine. I tried installing another stick of DDR ram and now it turns on,but nothing will happen-the screen stays on standby.I've tried it with just the original ram,and just the new stick, and with both, but still nothing. Have I blown both sticks of ram or worse?thanks

Umm...

Are you sure the RAM is right down in the slot in the motherboard? DDR is a rather tight fit and you need to make sure the little latches are latched into the edge of the RAM properly.

Do you get any beeps from the motherboard when you press the power button?

Is the main case responding at all, i.e. is it turning on at all?
