dvd ripper?
i'm after some software to rip dvds to my HD purely to save me carrying around dvds when i'm away or bored at work, don't need to be
able to burn them as i don't want to copy to disc simply dvd - HD so i can watch it on my laptop.
i've got dvd decrypter which copies vob files from the dvd but then i have to convert them and all i can do them to is mpeg4 which i can only
watch through quicktime and i just don't get on with it at all! plus it's all seperate files so can't watch the movie in 1 go.
is there anything out there that i can simply copy the whole movie to HD and then watch it in windows media player or winamp?
all advice welcome as ever
built a car, built a home, had a family. lost the family, lost the home, still got the car.

I'm sure Nero would do this - readily available as a Torrent download....

Apparently you should try DVDx...
(nero will do it, but only on non encrypted dvds)

Normal is getting dressed in clothes that you buy for work and driving through traffic in a
car that you are still paying for - in order to get to the job you need to pay for the clothes
and the car, and the house you leave vacant all day so you can afford to live in it.

Get this...
DVD Decrypter
Nero won't crack CSS copy protection so you can write them to the hard drive.

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

ok folks, i've got dvdx now which seems to be fairly simple in that it makes the files avi so they play straight off without any messing about.
only thing is i'm selecting the longest file which says is 1hour 57 minutes long but it's only ripping 6 minutes of it?
pete, i've got dvd decrypter but it's converting the files to something i can actually play kinda stumps me!

In DVDx when you set up the output settings, where it says 'expost settings' on the right hand side theres a button that says
'whole' on it. Click that and the number of frames in the box next to it should change. Then it will rip the whole of the input.

Pay attention at the back there sir!!
One of the options of dvddecrypter is only rip the main movie which really is all you need to do then play the vobs!

Your DVD player, PowerDVD or whatever should play the .vobs if you show it where they are. Open the playlist and add the files from the folder you
saved them to.

The best thing in my opinon is to use "DVD to divx" software. if u have the right codecs it will rip a dvd and convert it to an avi
format. often it can fit on to one cd per film.
U can find it on download.com and i can send u the codecs that u need and screen shots of the input and output settings as they took me ages to get it
just right!
The quality is really good too. on a computer u can't tell the difference.

the software i described above will also do that, i have no experiece of it tho as i tend to use avi formats as they are much better in terms of
quality and file size.
however i think the codecs required to rip the dvd to mpeg 4 come with the software.
hope that helps

DVDx will convert to anything as long as you have the codec installed on your pc. You just select from the available ones.

DVD Shrink 3.2 will decrypt all but the latest films, then you can do what you want with any DVD file with any program, it also reduces them to 4.7gb
without any loss of quality
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation
