Laptop turning itself off!

Hi guys woundering if anyone has any ideas how to solve my problem:

Basically if I leave alone for about 30mins it just goes off straight away

It doesnt seem to shut down just goes off but then it starts up as normal afterwards

I have checked the power management settings and theyre fine

I have restored the computer to the time before the problem first occured (i think)

If I am using it its fine and stays on

Once noticable thing is when it restarts it doesnt svae my msn settings (i.e. if I change my name or pic it reverts back to the original)

Thanks in advance

Colin

Hmmm POwer Save settings?? ie no use and it suspends itself and switches everything off to save battery power.

Thats a power mangment setting of some sort.
Check your sceensaver setting isn't "turn off"!
Could (unlikely but possible)even be a BIOS setting

My Dell laptop running XP has extended battery commands in BIOS.

However to be honest its a bit pants as after 15 minutes it goes to sleep and rarely comes up if left on batteries alone.

I had a Siemes Fujitsu laptop which did exactly this, was because it was overheating as the heatsink got covered in dust and therfore it overheated and has a thermal cut-off on it.

I bought myself a laptop cooler and also cleaned out the dust and all worked fine.

HTH,
Rich.

Thanks for the replies guys. I thought it would have been the power management tools, its a toshiba satellite and so comes with toshiba power management which has always worked fine. I usually have my laptop plugged into the mains and it still shuts off. My next thought was overheating but wouldn't it turn itself off even when I am using it?

How do you clean the dust out? Take the cover off? (silly question but thought id make sure!)

Thanks again

Colin
