Timer video effect

Im making a short video and for it i want a timer to be running from 17:00 to 17:00 through a day. I want to overlay it on some footage. The overlay isnt a problem but i dont know how to do the timer effect. Im using Sony Vegas and dont know if it has a function like this.

I could do a gif file i guess it something like photoshop but would take ages to do the 1440 frames for each minute.

Any help would be great.

Sony Vegas 6 has it, though it is difficult to manipulate.

It's in Video FX/Timecode where you get 8 options.

Cheers for the help Steve, I thought you may be able to help as you were the one that suggested using Sony Vegas a while back.

Will have a look see what I can find.
