I use an O2 Nokia N80 (although any gprs/3g phone will do) connected through a data cable to my laptop. Its as quick as BB and will also collect my pop3 virgin emails even though its an O2 connection. All service providers will do this and offer different data packages.
So in short you need a phone, a laptop and either a data cable or bluetooth connection.

Total cost to set mine up was £4.99 for the cable, i could have done it with bluetooth but it clashed with my hands free.

Alternatively you can get a gprs modem that fits the pcmcia slot on you laptop that has its own sim card. i forget the price of these but again most service providers do them. Suffice to say it costs more than £4.99 plus you have a seperate line rental to pay for.

Vodafone.

HSDPA card (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) plugged into your laptop with a SIM card and worst case you'll get a 3G service, best case HSDPA service at 2MBPS.

I've got one, excellent piece of kit.
