To SLI or not.....
Hi all, Just built my new PC and wondered if there's any real advantage to SLI?
I've got 2 graphics cards - both Asus EN7600GS, SLI ready (slightly different models though). Asus M2N SLI Deluxe mobo with Athlon 5000+
processor. Can't get the SLI thing to work.....is it worth persevering?

the simple answer is NO.
I'm pretty sure that they need to be exactly the same cards as well.
I'm sure that someone will disagree with me, but the only reason for SLi is to make you spend more on cards.
I've seen the same game running both on a single card and ans SLi pair and I could'nt really see the difference (not considering the price
anyway)

Heh I got CROSSFIRE 2x X1900 512mb PE XT's - it's awesome!
IT DOES make a difference !!!
I worked in the games industry for Codemasters up until September and we proved countless times the quality of rendering performed with 2 graphics
cards versus 1 is far more superior.
You can have maximum anti-aliasing and ainisotropic filtering on and the cards plough ahead nicely - on a single card configuration it does chug a
bit.
Ideally you'd get the same card from the same manufacturer but as long as it's the same class - should work fine.
Nvidia have the edge in grunt terms but ATI render much smoother and more defined - especially in games like HL2...
Just make sure you have a beast of a PSU. I have a 750W RMS PSU - it has to be a consistent power delivery a PMPO 750W PSU will go bang! :-)
Good luck!: D
