Ahhhhh - network trouble help needed fast!!
Ok, so one of my staff has brought her work laptop in to do some work. I've had her laptop working fine on my router before, using a LAN
cable.
Now it's saying IP conflict, so I set the IP to self assign, and now it says limited or no connectivity.
I HATE trying to network PC ......

Open a command prompt and type:
ipconfig -renew
If this doesn't work, leave the network card set to auto assign and re-boot.

I find that self assigning never really works, I'd look at the ip / subnet mask / dns of another computer on the network, and copy it onto the
laptop, but make the IP unique

Ok, so now I have the lan up and connected, but when I open a browser it just tries the existing broadband connections, and won't find the LAN
connection

Have you set the "default gateway" address on your LAN connection properies page? If you have set TCP manually this needs to point to your
routers address.
Cheers
Alex
PS
DHCP should work fine, do you have wireless enabled as well?
If so disable it to restrict traffic to using the NIC port only

No wireless - and presumably the default gateway stuff is fine if it's showing the connecting as connected??? Or not??
How do I find out the DNS of my PC - as I've got it set to automatic and it doesn't show me it.
