I thought i'd read a link to a driver for the one Maplins sells but they offer this Advise:
Q) im runnig windows xp, and the adaptor isn''t reconised by the OS. and i can''t find the setup file on the disk like the
manual says. - sean
A) Insert the CD plug in the adapter Windows automatically finds the correct driver from the CD, NO setup file is needed for XP, check in device
manager for the assigned port number under Ports COM and LPT

As above, 99% chance it'll be a Prolific PL230x
http://www.prolific.com.tw/support/files//IO%20Cable/PL-2303/Drivers%20-%20Generic/Windows/wd_pl2303h-hx-x_v20019v2021.zip
Failing that, it'll be either a Silicon Labs (Cygnal) CP210x, drivers from
http://www.silabs.com/tgwWebApp/public/web_content/products/Microcontrollers/USB/en/mcu_vcp.htm
Or a TI 340x. But thats 0.01% likely.
