DVD Rom drive runs on

Whenever I put a Cd in my CD Rom drive it spins up and keeps running even if you aren't using the CD - anybody know what causes this and how to stop it - other than taking the CD out.

It also seems to have lost the Autostart function - I have tried updating the driver in Device Manager with no luck

You need to go into and change the registry.

This is the line you want...

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\CDRom to 1

0 is auto disabled, 1 is active.
