Sending Emails from another connection
My Dad uses his laptop alot when he travels to meetings. When he gets there he connects to their wireless or wired network and downloads his emails
from his POP3 email account no problems.
But he cant send any because his outgoing (SMTP) is setup for his home connection. He isnt very computer savvy so even if he did know their SMTP
server he wouldnt be able to figure out how to do it everytime (even if I showed him).
Is there a way of sending emails through someone elses server using outlook? I had the same problem when I was at uni using my laptop on different
networks, but I got round it as I could access them from the internet. But again he doesnt know how to do that.
Anything I can set up now so he doesnt have to fiddle with it when he wants to send mail would be great!

yupsz..
every pop3 acount wich is not from your isp but somewhere on the net..
hired server etc. etc.. has his own smtp server....
the problem is that isp's close their smtp server for the rest of the outside world wich isn't connected using them.
Sow i would just register a domain..then you should recieve your own personal smtp server wich using autentication will be usable from every
where...
your dad can also switch to webmail with the advantage that big attachments don't comein when you don't want to.
(You reed/receive what you want)
also it can be handy for your dad to switch on the option that mail never is deleted by the outlook on the laptop) in that way the desktop can contain
/recieve the same mails...)

Changing email address would be a massive problem for him as so many people have his email address and he wouldnt be able to let all of them know.
He is with freeserve as its his ISP. Is there no other way of sending emails through whatever ISP he is connected to?

Correct, he needs to get his email account with an ISP that support SMTP authentication or has a webmail facility. This won't be free as it
would be a business grade service.

If he gets web hosting from his email ISP he could install his own webmail.

I'm with Freeserve and I log onto the Orange webmail site from work. I even managed it from Switzerland last year.
He'll have to create a webmail account on the Orange main page HERE, but he'll be able to keep his
Freeserve address.

what also can is this..
pop3 mail server is from hotmail.com
smtp mail server is from yahoo.com...
dunno how fast internet you have at home? or athis work???
but its easy to setup a smtp server just installing the right software and opening your modem router..
saying that if he has allot of big attachments its better to upgrade...
on internet there are allot of 3euro/month services..they will give you a mail service with a smtp server using your new login/password you could use
that smtp server.

Either he will have to use webmail which isn't ideal or he switches to using Thunderbird for email you can ad an addon called
"SMTPselect" that allows easy switching between presetup outgoing mail servers with just a mouse click.
Once setup this works really nicely and is almost idiot proof.

Google Mail is great for this - you can set it up to send emails which appear to be from another email address by setting up accounts within your
gmail setup. That way you can either forward messages to the gmail account, or just copy and paste into gmail for the reply if necessary - no need to
change email addresses or even tell anyone you have anything different and as it is web based you can send from anywhere.
