Laptop.... FUBAR?
My Laptop has decided to stop working (Dell Latitude D800).
Pressing the Power button, the green light rapidly flashes for a few seconds then the light goes out.
Is it the hard drive?
Dont trust PC World and dont know where else to take it without being ripped off. Laptop contains personal details too.
Need it working as i need to map my car engine managment?
Will pay if anyone here can fix it.

Take the battery out and unplug it from the mains leave it out for a minute.
Try powering up on mains alone.
Dell do have a good help forum worth a search

Have you access to a multimeter if so see what Voltage your power supply is giving out ? The power supply should have details on what V it should kick
out.

Jon - It means the laptop isn't recognising the charger I think. I had a D505 that did this. Sadly it meant motherboard replacement on that
model but things may not be so bad for you.
Latitude is a business range and may be covered by the 3 year warranty.
Worth checking?

Could the charging socket be loose on the board?

Press = 5 LED's
Press & hold = 5 LED's then 2 LED's
????
When pressing the Power On button, i can just hear some faint clicking that is in time with the Power On button LED flashing (if that is relevant).
Also the fan i can see in the back/base cover does not spin when i try to turn on????

So your battery has charge then...Hmmm.
Not looking great to be honest but could be worth attaching an external monitor to check that there's definately no VGA output at all.
I've some manuals at work and a Dell diag utility that the Dell guys use. I'll have a peak tomorrow for you.

Jon,
FWIW - I have an Inspiron 5100 with exactly the same problem! I have been chasing the problem for a few weeks... Apparently there is a common problem
with mine IAFA the unit gets very hot and melts the power connector to the motherboard, requiring; you guessed it; a new motherboard.
On mine the Laptop started to slow down in a major way before is began FUBAR...
I did the tests regarding battery, key stuck etc but it's still not working.... I've pretty much had it with Laptops it's the second
one in almost as many years!
If you get it sorted, let me know...
