re-connecting to internet?
Bit of a weird one from our new computer. When you start up the computer and then connect to the internet (broadband with Virgin) no problem at all.
However, if you disconnect and the leave the computer such that the screen saver comes on but then try to connect it will not connect.
Any ideas as to the issue and solution?

Is it a broadband modem you use for the internet? How is it connected to the PC? Do you have software installed that you use to connect/disconnect?

It's a broadband modem connected by USB lead to the computer.
When we hang up the cordless phones it cuts off the connection and this causes the same issue.

As above, do you need it to disconnect, or is it doing it automatically when the screen saver comes on?
There's an option for most devices to allow the PC to control it to save power, never been a problem for me in the past, but could be an issue
here?
It's in device manager, under whatever your Wireless card is called, in the tab "Power Management".
Like I said it's never ever been an issue for me in the past, but who knows!
One other thing to try, open up a command window (type cmd in the run box) then type "ipconfig /release" (without the quotes), then when
that's finished, "ipconfig /renew"
This is basically what Windows "Repair Connection" does, if anything goes wrong there post back with what it says.

Hmm, so you're on ADSL, is it BT Broadband?
I had an issue a while ago with someone having a terrible ADSL filter (bit that plugs into the modem and the wall socket), which wasn't helped
by their old cordless phone, although this never cut the connection off.
Do you hear static or anything of the sort on the line?

USB ADSL modem ? if so ditch it and get an ADSL Ethernet or Wifi Router.
A proper router keeps the connection running 24/7

Filters have nothing to do with the ADSL connection itself they are fitted to screen out noise of the ADSL signal from the conventional phone and
any fax or POTS modem.

Surely the fact that the cable is passed through the filter, into the modem, could cause issues if it's faulty? Granted not a cause of this, but
hanging up the phone causing this seems odd, to me anyway

It could be the filter. U2U me your address and I will send you a wireless dsl router and a new filter. Will solve your probs if you can get it set up
(I assume you know your login details?). I have a few of these removed from customers.
