2Gb or 4Gb
I'm wanting to upgrade the memory on my macbook as it seems to be a bit slow when running multiple applications.
I am doing more and more photo editing which can get slow and i am now doing a lot of iMovie work and will soon want to be using iDVD to make
permanent copies of my creations.
My question is should i go for the - 4Gb at £63.44 or 2Gb at £29.36
Is worth paying for double the memory for twice the price? it doesn't seem to badly priced? Will i really reap the benefits of 4Gb? I would
expect with 4Gb - my macbook would be extremely quick!!

PS I'm currently on 1Gb (2x512mb)

Yes you will at some point!! 4 Gig ain't that much as it is and it's better to get 4 now than 2 now and another 2 later.

How old is the macbook? You need to check which processor you have. Some of the older ones cannot take 4Gb. Have a look here (and other threads on
the same forum - it's pretty good for mac questions)

Thanks for that. my macbook is one of the newer Core2Duo so will accept 4Gb
I orginally posted this in the discussion forum on the apple website where i usually have no luck in getting a decent answer so i thought i'd
post it here 
I think i'll go ahead with 4gb from crucial they seem pretty good
Thanks donut too!! Again this is what i was thinking as a lot of desktops are now coming standard with 4Gb and yes i dont really fancy upgrading
again!!!

Can you just put a single module in? From some of those discussions it sounds like a single 2Gb chip was OK. In that case, you could get 2Gb now
(and maybe run 2.5 with one of your old chips) and get a second one later if required? From your first post, are 2x2Gb cheaper than 1x4Gb?
I'm on the brink of getting a macbook (I am already sold on my imac) but rumours abound of an update soon. I know they always do but I
unfortunately got my imac 3 weeks before the new ones came out last year!
The best time to buy a computer is always, 2 months from now! (ie 2 months in the future)

Yes apparently there is a new macbook coming, it'll be aluminum like the pro and obviously an upgrade, also snow leopard will be coming out next
year as an upgrade OS on Leopard.
They are always upgrading - the whole industry is always upgrading! i waited 4 months or so for leopard - glad i did, i think if you can just wait
(i.e do you really need it right now)
Also i'm not sure you can actually get 1 4Gb module for the mac?! though the upgrade idea does sound tempting, just get 2 gb now and 2 gb later
when i really need it. As i'm sure a new operating system or new apps will be more demanding in the future ( so maybe i'll try to save
some pennies in the immediate future ad 2gb for now )
Hmm i think i'm back to square 1!! haha
maybe i'll just use Austin Mans take on things!?!?
I think i'll join that forum and see what specs people run thanks geoff for the link to that!

Hi I run 2 gig on my macbook with a 2.2 processor seems to handle data fine.
Mac's aren't as memory hungry as windows [especially vista] as they use less in their basic format, apparently.
back to the question I would go for 4
