Router settings disappearing.

I've had no internet for most of today, despite all the lights being on the router it would not connect. We installed our old modem on a computer and tried that thinking it was the line and it went straight on no problem. I checked all the settings in the router setup and some of them had gone awol. I typed the dns server address in and now it's working fine again. What could cause it so I can avoid it in future ? I know what to do about it now though.

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Maybe if it's going a bit flaky it's time to get another one?

It's been rock solid till today so I'm not going to condemn it yet. If it does go a bit senile I will have to look at getting one or swapping ISP so I get a free one.

edit to add :- It happened again this morning and I reset the dns again. I found now that the ISP has changed the dns server cache and I have altered the settings to suit so I'll see what happens tomorrow.
