With broadband don't look for the cheapest look for cheap & reliable --- if you get locked into a cheap deal and get a line problem you can
have tough time getting the ISP to get BT to investigate it. Virgin have a lot of unhappy customers stuck with spurious disconnects and terrible line
speed. Tiscali had a terrible reputation they are now part of Talk-Talk which many will say is a frying pan to fire situation.
Look at Plusnet and O2 or Bethere O2 are particularly attractive if you have an O2 mobile even a PAYG

Also check what the cable connection is *in your area* me and my brother live 5 miles apart, we both have Virgin cable, but my connection is rock
steady and max speed all the time, his is crap.

is this charged for for amount of data downloaded or time connected or????

generally its a data limit and you top up as you describe.
These are getting pretty good now with fast speeds, although not as fast as cable.
Depending on your usage this could be an expensive option, but with the advantage of roaming internet.

Another vote for bethere, i run 3 connections with them, fantastic service and only 1 scheduled outage in 9 months.
It is a no frills service so no e-mail (yet) or web space but his helps to keep the cost down.
For those needing fixed ip its also one of the cheapest using their adsl2+ service as well as a free wireless modem as well.

I find that (Bethere) expensive.
I have ADSL+ with TalkTalk, no limits as to downloads and all for £12.98/month.
I currently have a download connection of 4-5Meg, which is great for a rural area.
No connection problems in three years. Well I did have one but they jumped all over BT until it was sorted.

As above I have 8mb with Sky for £5. will be moving the phone over to them shortly and from my understanding the broadband will then be free!
