Cd to Mp3 convertor
Ok folks I'm looking for an easy to use and free mp3 convertor
Basically my new Leon has a Usb port but will only play MP3 files ( AFAIcan See) so I need to be able to rip my fav cd's to a memory stick in
mp3 format.
Any ideas?? tried some tonight but no joy they all seemed to link back to " gaming harbour" with toolbars etc and so i just binned them.
If it looks wrong it probably is wrong.

Windows Media player!
Make sure you go into the options and set it to not aquire licences (else it will all be DRM'd and not playable) and then in the RIP setting
pick MP3...
Simples!

I use a program called `Format Factory` which I downloaded for free. It converts all sorts of things and is superb. Does CD`s to MP3 no problem at
all. Google it!

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

Media player only rips to WMA IIRC and it depends on the compatability of the stereo whether or not it will read them. Most will only read actual
MP3s.
I use Creative Media Organiser quick and free

Media Player 10 onwards I think (well, definitely 11) has native MP3 support.

media player might do mp3's now - but its still crap
I use itunes for ripping them - its free & very easy to use (my mum can use it no problem) - you don't have to sign up to anything or give
them any details if your only ripping CD's
just go into the advanced options before you use it the first time and set it to mp3, pick the quality you want and tell it where to put the files
etc....
(but I use winamp for playing them on the PC)

Winamp!
http://www.winamp.com/player
Give them a fake email address and select the Full - Free download
Then all you need to do is open the Media Library (press Alt+L when the main Winamp window is open) right click on the CD drive on the left and click
"Rip CD"
Does the same as the above, but I find the rips are always error-free.
May ask for a copy of lame, which is an excellent free ripper, comes in the form of a single file (DLL) that you just have to point Winamp to
http://sourceforge.net/projects/lame/files/
Must admit this is turning out to be more involved than I had first thought when suggesting it... now you'd need something to unzip the .tar.gz
files

You don't need to put an email in at all, just untick the box. the full version is free anyway.
It's the Pro one you have to pay for (it's not really worth it, IMO)

but the 'pro' one is the only version that can rip CD's to mp3's (the free ones do aac's etc...... thats why I use
itunes for ripping)
