Downloading video from my sony cam?
I have a Sony Handycam and want to get the videos off the cam and onto my pc. I loaded to CD that come with the cam but just doesnt work and has
errors.
How do i get the videos off the cam? Is there a program that i can download to use?
I have loads of videos of my little daughter that i want to send of to my family but im worried that i will never be able to show them.

Try running windows movie-maker, when I needed to transfer from my mother's camera, I just plugged it into the firewire port and started movie
maker. IIRC it was pretty much automatic.

My Sony Cam has a USB and is able to import the mpg files on it. It appears your camera either doesn't have the necessary drivers or
you're connecting up wrong.
Is your camera DV Tape - if so you may need specific drivers to connect.
What model is it and I'll try to help you, you can always use the old AV input straight into the PC if you have the necessary connectors.
Let me know Model number and I'll help you.

Are you using the right connection ? My Sony Handycam has A/V out, DV out and USB connector.
I use the DV out to Firewire in on the computer and no problems with Moviemaker

Firewire is a computer connector that is faster than USB and is used tor transferring video. Also known as IEEE 1394. If your computer is recent you
probably have a Firewire input (looks similar to a USB but one end is is a V shape )

If you don't have Firewire input you can buy a Firewire card quite cheaply from eg Maplins and install it in your puter.

Looking at the specs, it doesn't seem to have Firewire. If you have slot for plugging in extra boards, buy a Firewire card as above. Otherwise
you have to find someone who has got a computer with Firewire connector and get them to download your video which you can then transfer on to a
memory stick for use in your machine.
