PC Problem
My desktop PC started to reboot itself yesterday for no apparent reason. It did the same a few times today but now I get no display whatsoever. The
fan has been running quite frequently and I'd been meaning to clean the dust out but looks like something might have fried. I'm going
to try a new graphics card tomorrow but if it's the motherboard, I may be considering a new base unit.
In case of the latter, can anybody recommend a good (non gaming) base unit for circa £500?

For £500 you can build a pretty hot pc, especially if you keep your monitor and case etc.
Have a look at overclockers or dabs for some prices.

Could be a bunch of stuff to be fair, but my money's on the power supply. Try to get into the bios and check the voltages. Othewise, remove as
much as you can from the motherboard and keep adding hardware back in until the fault comes back.
Oh, if it's not even getting as far as the bios then either the motherboard or the power supply has totally had sex.

mostly agree with that. I have several PSUs go west recently on various PCs. The last one took the MB with it
I wouldn't try to turn it on any more with the existing PSU as if the MB is still ok you could fry it by keeping on trying. Have you got a spare
PC you can borrow the PSU from? You don't have to fully install it to just try it out. just unplug the old one and plug in the known good one to
see it it works.
Cheers

for £500 you could easily have a half decent laptop that would do what you want, from a decent brand too!
so there's no way you need to spend that much on a desktop
btw - what is your old machine ? (make/model or spec)
