how do you turn an (.avi) file into a AVCHD file format?
I love Pinto's, even if i did get mine from P&O!

ok sorry, let me rephrase that, how do i convert an avi file that is 9 gb to a format that is compatable to be read by my PS3 (which i believe needs
to read video image as AVCHD?)
been reading this forum 'Here'
i have a HD avi file and i want to burn it to bluray.

PS3's will read pretty much any of the common video formats you throw in them.
WMV, AVI, MPEG etc
Just stick your raw AVI on an external HDD and it should work.
The HDD needs to be formatted in FAT32, then create folders called Picture, Music, Video and Game then when you plug it in each different type of
content will appear in the right place.
FAT32 does have a file size limit of 4GB though IIRC, so you might still need to split the vid or re-encode. Which you can do with windows movie
maker.

my external hard drive is 18 gb. when i try and drop it onto it, it says that the file is too big!

hi,
As Flak said, the largest single file that Fat32 can handle is 4gig.
Either reformat the drive as NTFS or you will have to split it up into more managable file chunks.

Or reduce the quality of the file...
AVCHD is a format used by video cameras etc... I have never seen a program that outputs to that... would be counter productive

Try using Super from Erightsoft (http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html#Dnload) it claims to write files for the PS3 and its free. Make sure you
download Super and not the AVS video converter as the download links for both are on this page.

ok i have some RW Blurays, i've just tried to burn the avi file to disc, its asked me if i want to burn it as a DVD file (but then you
can't use it again) or use it as a data disc (in which you can use it again)
so what do i pick, i dont want to use it once at £3 each, they aint feckin cheap!

Data Disk (well thats what worked for me).
I stream .avi's from my Synology NAS via DLNA/UPnP directly to my PS3 now, and this works a treat (you can even search the remote file system
from the PS3).
The only downside was that 802.11G was just not fast enough to keep up with the bit rate, so i had to run gig ethernet from my office to the lounge.
