XP re-install, no com ports ?
After a crash I had to re-install XP but it doesn't see the COM ports. They don't show up in Device Manager as a Ports category.
Trying a Linux live disc it sees them OK, they did work OK before.
So what's up with the XP install ?
How do I get them recognised ?
The USB ports work fine.
Also i cannot get it to show my monitor resolution at 1440 x 900

Easiest way is to open up the case and look for the make and model of the main board and then go to the main boards manufacturers website and download
all of the drivers from there.

Thanks for that.
It's an IBM Lenovo so I should be able to get drivers from them.

Hmm OK I checked the Lenovo site. Its a ThinkCentre M55s 9644
I was able to obtain driver for the video card and get my resolution setup.
However i can't find anything relating to the COM ports. I did download the system inf files but that made no difference and there is no entry
in the device manager.
One other thing I noticed is that for some reason the hard drive is designated as I: not the usual C: is there any way to change this ?
I only realised that when the suggested download path kept failing as it had C: not I:
