SCAM EMAILS > words of warning

this is not really a warning as I am sure you are all aware of scam emails

I just find them funny Most of the time. but ! there is a serious note to this post .

I maintain 2 email addresses one for business use and an old business one for car insurance quotes ect.
well at some time last year I must have given this second one to some dodgy site or what ever ( no not porn ! )
I now get 30 > 40 offers of 5 million dollars a day and numerous " your bank account is on hold - click here" emails

now the moral / warning > i'm computer savvy as they say and there have been one or two that I have been tempted to click on
I say tempted , I have not !
for those less computer savvy some of these emails are very very very convincing.
never click on a link from an email
if you think your bank / hmc / or what ever is a problem shut down the email and log in how you would normally.
or ring them on the number you usually use ( not the number in the email )

any how > i'm of to collect the 3.5 billion i'm now owed

be alert > Brittan needs Lerts

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

Lol, and good advice.

Here's one that nearly caught me out the other day. An email alert flashed up on my phone, and I forgot that, for no obvious reason, my phone does alerts for some junk mail. So I clicked on the 'you have a WhatsApp voicemail', and it never mentioned I was going to the junk folder, clicked the 'Download voicemail' button, and it was only as I saw the browser running thorough strange domain names that I realised what was occurring. Quickly closed it all down. No idea if I spotted it in time though.

In most cases if you are getting heavily spammed it is because either a company you deal with or somebody you know has had their computer well and truly rodgered and the address book has been harvested for email addresses.

The only real defence against this is email filtering, my wifes professional email address gets very heavily spammed because about a year back there was a serious malware attack on lawyers offices and and just about every part of the Scottish legal system.

The best defence against this level of attack is proper email filtering, we have 3 layers of filtering on her PC but the main filtering is at our hosting company LCN. The email address can get hit with up to 16 spams per day but it has been many months since even a single rougue email got as far as the inbox.
It costs money to do this but it is 100% effective.
