replacing C drive

my C drive is starting to make noises, so I think it is time to get a new one.

not interested in any upgrade, just a 1:1 drive swap.

thinking of buying another, equal drive, install it as D and installing an image of the existing C onto it. then changing the cable so that the D becomes the C.

Do I need anything "special" in software to transfer the entire OS and collection of junk on the existing to the new drive.

or is it as simple as opening in DOS, then
copy c: d: ?

I want to end up with the new drive as the main, boot drive before the existing drive crashes.

Help? Anyone?

there is a dos based program think its called pcghost that will allow you to do it, if you just copy c: d:, the new drive won't be bootable.

will check if i've still got a copy and let you know, only a small file so should be able to email it to you.

a while ago I bought a maxtor drive to upgrade my C: drive from 30GB to 120GB. The program they supplied worked just fine, left me with a new bigger partition booting Win2K

Go to the manufacturer website, they all have their utilities for download and they work really well.
