CPU upgrade problems

I decided to up grade the kids computer CPU the other day. I bought a AMD Athlon 2400 of ebay with heatsink and fan to replace my AMD 1.1.

However, when I installed it I just got a blank screen, not even a dot or a beep. I reinstallled the old CPU and that still works fine. I have double checked that the compatibility is ok, I have made sure that the MB speed switch is set ok (133) and I have disconnonected all the drives to make sure that the CPU has the necessary amps/volts to make it work (my PSU delivers 15 amps at 12+), I have taken out the cmos battery to reset to defaults, but still no luck.

Has anyone got any ideas of anything else I might have missed? Or have I bought a dodgy chip!

Thanks for any help.

try resetting the cmos, should be a jumper somewhere on the board to do it, but if that doesnt work then looks like a dodgy chip!

There is sometimes a RESET button too depending on your MB...

Watch out when fitting the fan to the chip if it aint the right way round it will knacker the chip, which is probably whats happened, if it wasnt knacked out already. As the other guys have said try clearing the cmos (red jumper by the battery)
Cheers,
Bob
