file sharing issue
To all you computer geniuses out there
I have a couple of pc's and my laptop in my office all connected by wireless to a standalone pc which operates as a file and print server.
The file and print server runs XP professional as does my Laptop.
The problem is that if using my laptop I create say a new folder in 'shared' on the file server I cannot see it unless I manually refresh
the screen. similarly if I then rename the said folder, I have to refresh the screen to see the new name (and only then can I open the folder) and
then if I copy and then paste some photos or documents into the folder, I need to refresh the screen to see what I've pasted.
I'ts a bit annoying rather than a major problem but i'd like it to work as it should.
Any ideas anyone?
Cheers
Mark

Windows uses read caching in an attempt to reduce network traffic, so explorer does not actually re-read the share data after an update, only on
refresh
I would gues that this is what is causing your problem, if you google something like "XP read caching disable" you should find
instructions on how to switch it off.
Hope this helps
Cheers

And just in case that doesn't work note that I am not claiming to be the "genius" you were requesting
