Sd cards in a camera/camcorder
OK when it come's to this stuff I'm not a numpty but I am lazy and cant be bothered reading the techy stuff so
In a camera or camcorder, which has an Sd card type storage, when some of the manuals were written the biggest card available would have been say 2GB.
As such the manuals would list this as being able to be fitted although they prolly only supplied a 256MB card.
Now there are 4 and 8GB cards available would the said cameras and camcorders support these cards or not??
If it looks wrong it probably is wrong.

Thanks but as I've already said I've read up on the camera but as it's dated and cards only went to 2GB at that time then I cant
glean the info I need. Perhaps someone else can be more helpfull.

my phone said, at the time i got it, that the largest memory card it could take was 4GB, and at the time the largest available to buy at the time was
2GB. i would suggest no.

being sensible, potentially it will work - you may have issues that larger cards are slightly (fractionally) larger and don't fit. As long as
the camera has a stated standard then it will work up to a fixed size in that standard.
The issue with larger cards is how the camera addreses the extra space, 2 to 4gb probably won't be a problem, above 4gb is more likely to be a
problem.
Post the camera details and someone (probably me now i'm feeling guilty that my reply wasn't quite as witty as i'd hoped) can do
some research for you.

Older card readers do have trouble with 2Gb and upwards cards, there were some changes to the SD card specs to allow the increased storage capacity. A
few devices are able to read the larger cards with a firmware upgrade but they are few and far between, most would need new hardware to be able to
read them.

Beware newer high capcity SD cards are now mostly "SDHC" which is a different format and the hardware needs to be SDHC compatable. My new
Panasonic still camera is SDHC enabled and wouldn't read a "normal" 4GB SD card. My sons older Casio camera, however, will.
You need to check up, or try one first

probably safer to assume it won't work, and get 2x 2gb cards, and change them, like back i the day with video tapes, or photo film
unless there's a reason why you would need to fill a whole 4gb in one shoot of course
