Solidworks memory question
I've just installed Solidworks 2008 onto my PC. I have 4Gb of Ram and a SW recommended video card.
However, I'm getting two messages when rendering sometimes...one says basically out of memory, then it crashes...the other says model is too big
to render....when it's clearly not..
Any ideas?..similar experiences?

Do you have recommended RAM and are they in matching pairs? I dont have any experience with the faults of SW (I have 2Gb 400Mhz DIMM) as it has always
worked flawlessly for me but if you're getting this problem it would be the first place I would look. Try re-seating the RAM first before
purchasing new/exchanging.

Could I ask by any chance is this a 'legit' copy...
If not, sounds suspiciously like a copy protection system 
Allow the app to run, then invoke a silent trigger to push out a massive memory leak in a critical function.
I'd either swap the 'crack' or get a legit version

I can't talk for the full version, but on my student edition I get weird artifacts on my screen on the programme.
I have heard that this is because I have vista. Maybe you can look for a patch for this?

I have the full version - I too get the artifacts and I have XP Pro. Personally I prefer 2007!

My copy is fully legit......which makes it more annoying.....grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Alan,
Are you 32/64bit?
Vista/XP
I had a few problems running 2007 on 64bit XP, so went back to 32bit XP.
Have you tried compatibility mode in Vista - sometimes can surprisingly give good results?
I'm assuming you've patched to the latest version via the vendor?
If things don't improve, tell them to send you a 2007 copy to use until they fix the problems with your version.

Thanks guys for the help so far.
Update: I splashed out and bought a new PC...4Gb RAM, approved video card....etc
And guess what?.....still hardly any better...keep getting all the memory/model size messages.
I only bought the seat and not the upgrade/subscription package...they won't let me have the current SP (3), which is very annoying as I believe
that it is the least I'm entitled to...
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
ETA...I'm running XP32 home edition...would that make a difference vs XP pro?

Is this just a theory or something you know really happens?
The reason I ask is because my first PC died on me not allowing the PC to "give up" the license so to speak. When I installed on the new
machine I did get some kind of warning that it was still installed elsewhere and I was naughty or words to that effect.

Update
Thanks for all the help.....I'm up and running again.
I ended having to be a very squeaky wheel in order to get some solidworks grease.
It turns out that having all the add-ins loaded sucks a LOT of memory...logical I guess, but I don't recall seeing it mentioned
anywhere...anyway with the add-ins all turned off it was much better...not perfect, but definitely useable.
So it turns out that I now have two decent computers....oh well....
