Ahhhh - Network set up problems again

I'm trying to set up a simple Network between two PC's. I use a wireless router to connect them together and connect to the internet. I have run the Network Setup on both machines, called them different names and left the Newtwork name as the default (MSHOME) on both.

I've managed to share the My Docs folder on the new machine no problem, but when I do it on the old machine I get an error message:

'An error occurred when trying to share My Docs. The Server service is not started.'

All I want to do is share the My Docs files on each machine and be able to print from both machines to two printers both connected to the original machine. Not too much to ask!!

The easy way to fix this is to run services.msc (start/run), look for the SERVER service and set it to auto.

its wierd, i spend possibly years trying to do the same thing, then for some reason one day it just worked without me trying.

sorry, but i really don't know why it didn't work before, or what changed to make it work...

That's not right. Hmm. You tried on the offending machine I take it? It has to run on both. Is the service started/stopped or what? What happens after a reboot?

Just managed it, I went into the services and set everything to Auto that related to Networks and Sharing (that seemed sensible) - rebooted the machine and everything is now working.

Thanks for the help

are you set to run on a domain?
have you tried simple file sharing?
have you sacrificed enough chickens and prayed to Uncle Bill enough?

What OS's are you using?
