Outlook Express
Does anyone know where Outlook Express messages are stored ?
My old Windows installation lost the plot and I replaced hard drive and installed clean copy of windows.
If I put my old hard drive in as a slave, I can read the old files. It would be very helpful if I could access the old e-mails on OE but I can't
seem to find them

Do a search for a .pst file and get outlook to look for that file. It worked with Outlook, and I assume express is the same.

Not much help if you can't run the old version of OE, but if you right-click the "Inbox" folder and click on
"properties", in the box that pops up there's a link to where the files are stored.
I use Windows Mail now so can't even check and have a look for you...

Do a search for .dbx files. They're the OE messages.

Most of the path are hidden so you'll have to unhide your drive but they'll be somewhere like this,
Old drive letter:\Documents and Settings\Richard\Local Settings\Application
Data\Identities\{E95C8199-CC55-41B1-A93B-FC2673715055}\Microsoft\Outlook Express
Copy the entire Outlook Express folder and then setup outlook express to look for the new message location by going into Outlook express, then
"Tools" then "Options" then "Maintenance" then press the "Store Folder" button and then press the
"Change button" the rest is easy!

.dbx and .pst didn't turn up anything but .eml found a few.
Will try Richard's advice too.

In the longer term think about ditching Outlaw Expess and switch to Thunderbird -- it really is easy to switch it imports all Outlook's mail
and settings, it filters spam and is almost the same as Outlook Excess to use. easy to use.
One important plus with Thinderbird is you can use MozBackup to backup everthing - mail, account settings, server settings so restoring or moving to
a new computer is easy.

If you're doing a windows search make sure you go to advanced options and click search hidden directories. Otherwise it won't find it.
Or go to command prompt and type
cd \
dir /s *.dbx
that'll find 'em...
