Ebay Is this safe

just tried to buy a band saw blade, first I got a knife warning off ebay then this message.
I've got the locked padlock at bottom left screen but in light of mail i've had off banks lately and the email featured on this site from ebay/paypal am very suspicious

Dear Bidder / Buyer

In order to maintain a safe trading environment, eBay may request additional verification when purchasing certain items.

At this time we ask that you verify your account with a Credit Card.

The process is immediate and your card will not be charged.

many thanks
tony

It may be genuine as Ebay/paypal require you to be verified now. Are you already shown as verified on your paypal account?

Hi Steve
no I am not verified, although my debit card is on there my primary account is my credit card, being a tight arsed get I can screw the bank for a months free interest without spending my money, the reason i'm not verified is pure and simple I don't like giving my bank details out and the verification process seems very complicated, take money out put money in and tell them how much a couple of days later

Thats what I had to do aswell, two small sums put in your account, I am afraid you will have to do it or the gits will close your account. Make sure as suggested above that it is genuine then bite the bullit and do it, or tell them to stuff it and walk away.

Hi Paul
no it's not an email,
click on commit to buy link and it takes me to the message

with the credit card link taking me to the ebay log in screen but not the normal one
log in on the right hand side.
this one goes across the screen
but padlock is still locked at bottom right
maybe I'm just overly suspicious

Does indeed sound very suspicious that!! Have you tried another item the same from a different seller?? I dont think i'd dare enter my login details, never mind my credit card number, if you wasnt directly into the simple www.ebay.co.uk address but instead from a page that doesnt look normal

Its Paypal that requires verification with the small bank payments - not ebay isnt it??

For stuff like this the netcraft phishing filter gives me a fair bit of reassurance. You can click on it and get the website information to check it's real....
