he was just trying to overtake, no harm there. With webber he slipped on the kerb, button closed the door on him, schumacher scared him off. Same at monaco, he was just trying to pass people. Had the other drivers avoided him like people used to avoid montoya, there wouldnt be as many collisions.

i dont know a great deal about F1 but from what i gather Senna was a little 'spirited' in some of his overtakes but people thinkg he was passionate and an F1 hero. Maybe hamilton has to be dead before people will like him

PS - I also thought that JB turned sharply into him, but the re-runs show it was the contact from the rear that made JB's front end momentarily twitch left.

lol, that's probably true - almost everyone disliked Senna when he was alive basically for the same reasons people dislike Lewis Hamilton now....... Now he's been dead a good while he's become everyones favorite F1 driver - I just remember an arrogant t*sser who would do anything to win.......but who also happened to be an amazingly gifted driver......

No, I'm not comparing the two in terms of talent just the public's reaction to them

Hamilton's the same as Simoncelli - bit of a hothead anyway and it gets worse when putting himself under pressure - both of them have left themselves a lot to do today.

Dont need to make excuses for Button he's a fine driver, amazing win. Hamilton could learn a lot from him, in fact Hamilton would do well in touring cars or stock car racing with his overtaking techniques

" I just remember an arrogant t*sser who would do anything to win.'' Yes that's how I remember him as well. Unfortunately Lewis holds him up as his greatest hero. Senna and even more so Scummy have greatly tarnished their reputations by dirty driving. Lewis hasn't gone this far yet. But he needs to calm down. His last two races have just been dumb. Could've been a Brit one two cos he's undoubtably faster than Button when he doesn't crash.

I like Hamilton to watch, but Button seems to win more because of better tactics and wearing his tyres less. I suspect Hamilton will stop pushing quite so hard in a couple of races time, as it will then be impossible for him to be world champion this season even if he wins every race.

Unbeleivable! The moaning that goes on about F1 being boring and there being no overtaking and a massively talented, British, driver comes along who's done more to spice things up in years and he gets slagged!

As they said during the race, of the 280 competitive over-takes this season, Hamilton has made 10% of them!

Along with Vettel and Alonso, Hamilton is clearly in the top 3 drivers. Any of the commentators will continually say this and it's frequently mentioned in the reputable F1 media. Anyone who believes he's not in the top tier 3 is mistaken.

Think of all the pre-Pirelli/DRS years since 2007 when most of the pack seemed to just drive round in line, one after another never taking any risks... apart from Alonso, Lewis and Kimi.

I've heard people criticise Hamilton for being too 'corporate' and sticking to the company line (my God! he's professional and doesn't slag his employer to the press- you tried doing that and kept your job?) and then he makes a comment like the Ali G one (when he was clearly actually upset and emotional) and people criticise him for that too. The guy can't win!
We could have another whole thread about WHY it can't be easy being of mixed race in F1 and how the Ali G line could be at the back of his mind- but that would go *really* OT!

Don't get me wrong, there were clearly mistakes made both here and Monaco, I don't know why his judgement is off at the moment and it's a great shame as the Mclaren is now as quick in race trim as the RedBull (and will be as quick in qualy, I suspect, now hot blown exhausts are banned). It *may* be lifestyle or a lack of an 'F1 manager'. I suspect it's that he *knows* he should be winning and so is taking unnecessary risks. Maybe someone needs to sit him down and explain the bigger picture! Look at Alonso, he's been mighty patient whilst waiting for the car to get up to scratch!

As for Button:

Good on Button for what he achieved yesterday. I'm massively pleased for there to be another Mclaren win. Button is great in those changeable-type conditions and having stopped 5(?) times for tyres and had a drive-through he did amazingly to get up to 2nd and then to pressurize Vettel into making a mistake.

Gutted not to have bought a Rocket Red top a few months ago when I had the chance of a cheaper one. Not sure I can get away with wearing it at work when I should be in a shirt/tie though!

Mclaren forever!!!

cheers,
James

I think Hamilton is a great driver but he needs to take a tiny little chill pill because recently he's been going for some rather silly moves. The move on Button was a prime example, if Hamilton had taken the outer wet line he would have been fine but instead he tried to nip into the dry line and hope Button saw him coming. He didn't.
Bizarely in the first few years he showed more maturity!
Exciting race though eh?

You've seen JB's girlfriend? You've seen Vettel and everyone else's daft beard? Not entirely sure it's the problem! Maybe it's just the earrings?
