Alu Heads - Dishwasher
Ignoring the potential marital issues can anyone think of any reason why I can't put my aluminium heads in the dishwasher to clear the crud?
She's going out on Saturday!

yes the smell still being there Sunday night. ;-)
heard about this being done. might be worth investing in one of those dishwasher cleaning bottles that you fire in noe and again to freshen it
up.,might even earn brownie points.
I think there is advice to coat them in duck oil or similar once done to stop oxidisation and rusting.
I also belive a good scrub with civic bang helps
regards
edit to add I would give it a go but I have not got a dishwasher.

a dishwasher cleans up ally parts nicely.though id be wary of doing a head just in case the detergent pitts the surface.casings and cam covers etc are
fine though

A specialist cylinder head repair shop down the road has an industrial dishwasher that he uses, its a big stainless thing with a roll top.
When I had my heads done I asked him what he used, standard dishwasher chemicals that hotels etc use. Heads looked like new when returned.

I have a small dishwasher in my workshop. I use it to clean all sort of things, alu-heads, pistons, sumps.
It is very good to clean tools with. After the wash i just spray some WD-40 to prevent rust.
It is a small bench model and i got it for free. After the boombox it is the best thing in my shop.
