OT - PC upgrade again... (testing a CPU this time)

I've just just got my 'new' CPU in the post (Pentium D 840 EE)

if I just shove it in will windows (XP pro) have a fit and want reactivated again ?

also can anyone recommend any programs that will put it through its paces ?

Windows might need reactivating, it should be straightforward to do tho.

to test it - search for some benchmarking tools (you could always do a before and after to see the difference...). These can also test your memory bandwidth, etc...

Cheers

yeah, but its a PITA - I've done it before a few times so now I have to phone them every time

so I might just re-intall it all while I'm at it (or at least use another disk to test it for a few days and re-install properly later)

If you want to test it to its max use Prime 95 on a torture test. Just make sure the heatsink and fan are in good shape first!!!
