Computer Probs

When I start up my computer it displays a pop-up to say "c" drive memory full, I click on it and it asks do you wish to delete temp files etc. A separate pop-up also displays your last Norton update was some years ago. Then ask's do you wish to update now. I always press yes to both and it shows it carrying out the operation, yet when I start the computer the next time up comes the same messages. Why won't it accept or carry out the operations? Any ideas welcome thanks.

im not much help but have you tried manually moving something off C, and do a norton update via the program control panel itself?

It could be that there isnt much space used for temporary files anyway.

OK Message 1 about c Drive Full means your hard disk is Full.

You need to remove some files or programs to lets windows work properly. Might even be time for a PC upgrade depends on how big your hard disk is etc.

Could try bruing stuff like MUSIC / Videos and Phots to CD/DVD and then remove them from the hard disk.

As for NORTON - Well your mad installing it in the first place!!!!

ditto NORTON being utter crap, uninstall it and just use the free AVG program off the web. That works far better

Try booting it up again off the internet (network cable unplugged if you have one) as I have see a couple of viruses do this to make you click and install their antivirus software...

If you still get the same then try booting it up again but going into Safe Mode (when you first turn it on you get a screen full of text of manufacturers logo, the instant that disapears press the F8 key, this should then give you a menu and you can use the arrow keys to select safe mode.)

Once in safe mode do a disc cleanup (open my computer, right click on the C drive and select properties, just under the graph of disc space there is a Disk Cleanup button). This will take ages to open as it scans the machine. I would select everything apart from compress old files and click OK. This will free up some disk space.

Once done reboot and let it go into Windows normally and then try to update Norton (or better still uninstall norton and download something like Avast or AVG as they are free and better in my opinion!)

Hope that helps

Mark

Open "My Computer" Right Click on "Local Disk (C:)" Click "Properties" on the pop up menu and look at the free space graphic. There will probably be very little left.

You can do several things to get more space. Either burn all of your files (Music, Pictures, Documents, Videos etc) that you have saved over the years on to CD's/DVD's or buy an additional hard drive or possibly a memory stick to transfer all of those files to.

If you buy an external Hard Drive the installation is pretty much plug it in to a USB port and go.

Basically the reason you need more space is that the system creates what is called a swap file which is an area on the hard disk that is used as virtual memory while the system is running and if there is not enough space there the system will run out of physical memory pretty quickly and then will freeze up or blue screen.
