OT - DDR3 memory ?
I'm (still) thinking about rebuilding my main PC as an i7 with the 920 CPU
and I've decided that I like this MB linky
I've already got the graphics and power sorted (GTX285 & 1kW psu)
I recon I'll stick with running XP for the short term (pro 32bit) and probably change to win7 64bit later on
so I just need to sort out some memory - but I can't decide what I'll need.......
the MB needs at least 2x1GB (which is all my 32bit XP can handle)
so I was thinking about 3x1Gb DDR3 1333's to start with, but there are so many different ones at the moment I'm totaly confused 
any suggestions ?

I still don't like vista, its so useless running my older programs. Stick to XP

thats why I'm going to wait and see what win7 is like - I'll only change if its any good (I've managed to totaly avoid vista so
far)
back compatabilty isn'y too big a deal for me (I've got loads of old machines I can use)

I've just rebuilt mine:
i7 @ 4ghz (water cooled)
Asus P6T SE
6GB OCZ 1866mhz Ram
NVidia 280 GTX
oh boy does it fly 
I'm running windows 7 RC 64bit until my shiny box arrives in the post.
I was running vista 64 which was fine for me as i only tend to play games.
If your going to move to Windows 7 i would go for the 3x 2bg modules.

I was thinking that I could use 3x1Gb or 2x1Gb for XP then add another 3x1Gb later for win7 (which I can do if I stick to 1333)
I'm not going to water cool it, so I don't much advantage in the faster memory - or am I thinking about this the wrong way ?

XP should be able to use ~3GB, both my desktop and my laptop are running 32 bit XP with 4GB, and both report about 3GB of useable memory.

Vista is great if you have the PC to run it. Its next to useless on an older machine though.
You are right in that 32bit operating systems can only support 4GB total memory INCLUDING GPU memory. 64 bit doesnt have those limitations though.
I am tempted by the 25% off Win 7 deals that are flying around at the moment, but then what would I do with my copy of Vista Ultimate 64?
