Thieving Scum buggers!!! Help???
I am building a workshop around the back of my house. Its served by a separate road to the front of house so you can't see it without going
around there.
we have had some smallish stuff (wood scaffold plank) nicked over the past few nights and it feels like they're sounding it out for a big go.
I need to put up a cctv camera to watch the area and am looking at this one
linky what do you guys think about this?
Obviously we are putting away everything we can and securing as much as is practical. We have already put up the cctv signs but i wanted you
guysopinion before we shelled out.
Thanks

Personally I'd go for the Rockweiller on a long chain attached to a post style of property protection. Either that or a PIR sensor attached to
floodlights and a big alarm Surely prevention of burglary is better than having a nice filmed memento of the occasion (assuming they don't
nick your CCTV camera!!!).

Big tripped light, they do not like to be seen!!!
Just beware that foxes will also set it off so maybe have on a timer so its off after 2am.... thieves like to come out after the pub shuts but still
want to sleep.

can't hound it up as its a right of way to a number houses my parents rent out.
We are going to put up a giant security light as well we think.
They won't nick the camera its not accesable
We think 2am is the kind of time they did it because they would have had to have used a vehicle and they would have been seen by one of the tenants

i have a 2 camera cctv system high up (out of reach) watching the back of my home, its mainly for the security of my dogs as well as my home, we also
have a German Shepherd that is free to roam the garden/rear of the property, not had any trouble at all
tho the next door neighbour has had stuff nicked from the garden, so it looks like the thieving scum look for the easier target.
maplins do fairly good cctv systems at ok prices, german shepherd cost a bit more

Could you rig up a car alarm to a car battery with a Microwave sencor or something of the like?
It would probably be cheeper than the, CCTV camera and they'd definately know that was there having instant effect.
The Alarm may also be have use for whatever project your building in there or even when the premesis is finished.

How about a metal fence surrounding the workshop hooked up to the mains power supply!! That will give them a shock!!

I have an old PC in the garage that serves for Megajolt updates and runs two cctv camera's.
The interface cards are quite cheap
HERE and the cameras are two of
THESE
Mine is there purely to record my lunatic ex wife's antics. Night vision isn't that good but a security light will help. Mine gave a good
enough image for the plod when the whore tried to stab me a few months ago.

I believe that CCTV has to be above a certain resolution/quality for it to be used by the Police.
So if you're going to bother with it, make sure it's worth having!
Good Luck!
James
P.S. People nick scaffold planks for all sorts of reasons... might not be people who actually want to break into property.

CCTV in my opinion is sh*te.
Ok it may put off some, but the hardcore scumbags aint put off one little bit.
I work in a hostel of druggies and have 36 cameras at my disposal. All they do is put their hoods up.. Game set and match.
Even if they are seen in the clothes they were wearing 10 minutes ago when they committed the crime, they still get away with it.
However if you were to see the scummies on CCTV doing it live, you could always go and have a polite word.

is your house alarmed? can you get the garage included in the alarm system?
we did a few weeks back, cost about £130+vat for wireless sensors in the garage doors.

You can buy a security light with a sensor that rings a chime in a plug socket in the house, might be worth a try.
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

There are also trip mines avalible. They ususally take bank shotgun cartrigde type explosives. Lots of noise. They can also load with paint, nothing
to stop them being loaded with body waste products though too
Here is something like the old disc ones:

That took me back a bit. I was a regular on the Bham Tekno scene.
The were a mob of more than 20 hairy bald bikers used to turn up all dressed in urban camo, didnt look too disimilar to the viking.

what you want is a cheap microwave alarm system then wire the siren up to a big floodlight and one of these
http://www.firesafe.co.uk/ProductDetails1.asp?pid=FK64
its so loud and high pitched you can't stay in the room
