anyone on here use cubase vst?
more specifically, cubase, on one of those free o/s like ubuntu or something.
all the computers i've owned have never been able to run cubase without loads of errors and terrible latency, starting off with hitting a key on
a midi keyboard, and a note comes out about a quarter of a second later, but gradually gets worse, up to about 5 seconds, before it gives up
completely
all my computers have been ibm, coz my dad works for them. latest is a lenovo as ibm sold the pc part to them.
they've all had this same problem. think it must be an ibm thing.
wondered if anyone else had done this, or tried and came accross problems of vsts or asio drivers not working etc
ok, a bit specialised, and a long shot i know, but this is really annoying me now lol got loads of ideas for tunes i want to do, but can't put
them down until i go to my mates house

I could never get onwith Cubase.
Been using Cakewalk pro for years now.
It's on the laptop I'm typing this on and I use Asio4all and it works a treat.
I also have it on my desktop machine with a soundblaster live drive for I/O purposes.
Regarding synths etc. I stick with Cakewalk TTS and Native Instruments B4, both of which work a treat using the Asio4all drivers.
No latency, can run the soft synths and can run plugins on the channels or on auxiliaries, just like a real mixer.
Nearly forgot.
This machine is on Vista basic, the other is on XP pro.

me and my mate have always used cubase, so its pretty much all i know, plus i've got several copies of cubase already, inc one of cubase sx 
for ease of making something and sending off to him etc i'm going to stick with cubase. would be interested in trying cakewalk right enough coz
i've heard good things about it.
yeah, i can't explain why all my pcs have had problems with it. all of them have been well up to the spec.
my old laptop is 700mhz P4 or something (300mhz more than my mates old pc, which ran cubase 5 easy)
dads desktop, don't know the spec, but its faster than my old laptop
my dads laptop (newer than my old one, so faster too)
and this laptop, well, maybe i've not tried it actually, as its not got the printer port for the cubase key thing
but yeah, considering putting linux or ubuntu or something on my old laptop, stripping everything off it, and using it just for cubase
what is it you do then zil?

Didn't Cubace get absorded into Audition and become part of the Premier Pro Suite of Apps? Some changes I believe but a more stable product. If
I'm talking about the right App?

i don't know... i don't think so. premier pro suite is adobe isn't it? cubase is by steinberg (i don't know if thats anything
to do with adobe though)
my mate got a new version of cubase in the last year that was on its own though

I use cubase for all my recordings. Never got on with cakewalk.
I run mine on windows though.
How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

What's your MIDI setup? If you happen to be using a USB MIDI controller together with one of the Yamaha PSR range of keyboards, then they are
notorious for this problem. These keyboards seem to send lots of extra MIDI messages which wash out normal USB MIDI interfaces. You can use a Yamaha
USB interface which will work, or change your keyboard, or use a normal soundcard with builtin MIDI interface....or ignore all that if you don't
have a PSR 
Though interestingly, I didn't think you could get Cubase for Linux - I thought the nearest thing was Rosegaarden? I'm a Cakewalk man
myself (well I was years ago when I had time to dabble!)
