ye that started a few years ago.

if you download torrents etc then you can get it to throttle before you get throttled by virgin.

the issue is if you get throttled just before the peak time ends it will run over into non peak hours.

i had a 10 mb line and it was ace. i only downloaded my Freeware torrents after 10pm till 9am. this stopped any issues or warning letters.

you can game most of the day and not hit throttling.

although now i live in lincs i do miss virgin broadband.

shame it aint made it this far yet.

The really strange thing is we've asked them why it's slow twice, the first time they told us about this cap and the second time they were going on about channels

Where in North lincs do you live? you must be in one of the villages, as it wasnt available when i lived in Scawby, but it has been available in scunthorpe for a long time. Same as here in Grimsby it has been available for a long time

Pipex (or whatever the unholy shower of sh!t call themselves this week) do the same thing but they refuse to acknowledge this fact. Have a look at the Glasnost tests to check how much throttling is actually going on with your connection. My 8Mb connection (used to run at 6Mbps all day every day) is now throttled to 0.3MBps but they still have the cheek to make me pay full whack for it. Now, call me old fashioned but if I pay for something then I think I'm not being unreasonable to expect to get it?

I've requested my MAC code. Time to jump ship.

as pointed out at least virgin publish that they do it and what the figures are. I hit mine pushing my photo's up to photobucket but most of the time I leave it running overnight.

I belive but may be wrong if you pay for a works bb conection from virgin you can get a none throttled supply.

They certainly do restrict you. But it's really only for P2P. I was having a fragfest for a few days in a row last year on CoD and no problems at all.

Of course when I downloaded a Linux distro with P2P it all went horribly wrong and I could hardly read my e-mails for the rest of the day.

Have to say since then moved to Be and loving the speed. No caps, no limits. No TV so everything on ITV iplayer/ BBC iplayer/ 4OD / TVcatchup and never had a problem. I hate to think what my Gb usage is the last few months!!!

Just cos they dont do it now doesnt mean they wont do it in the future Ben.
I moved to my provider because their selling point was no throttling or capping. That lasted 6 months then it was unlimited downloads between 9 pm and 11 am then that changed to 12 pm to 8 am now its throttled.
Cheers,
Bob

So who are you with now SplitRivet? I'm looking to change to Be or Zen. Anyone got any good experiences they'd like to share?
