OT - New laptop for my mum ???

My mum is after a new laptop

she doesn't run anything to demanding, but does use it alot and tend to have a few things on the go at once - so nothing too fancy required, but it needs a bit of go in it
she says it has to have a DVD drive built in and a decent size screen (we recon a 15" - 15.6" is about spot on) but at the same time as small and light as possible

budget is up to £600

so far this one has cought her eye: linky
but I know there are some slightly thicker heavier ones with newer internals for the same money...

any suggestions ?

Not a fan of Asus laptops...

The dell inspiron range is very highly rated... as are some of the tosh laptops of a similar price...

With laptops for home use only 3 makes to consider Toshiba or Toshiba or Toshiba

My previous job I was dealing with a lot of "student laptops"....

When you work with the whole spectrum of laptops and manufacturers you very quickly figure out which are good and which are bad.... Asus dont stack very well compared to Tosh IMHO...

We had some Tosh Tecra M3's that were abused heavily for 4 years and still work.... By heavily I mean always on, always being carried about, not really being cared for... Try doing that with a similar price asus for a month...

well my old ASUS L2000D is still going strong (8 year and counting and that was one of there cheapest ones back then)
and my brothers ones been really good to (2 years old)

my other brother and a few other folk have Toshiba's with no complaints, but I always found them a bit on the basic side....
