Trim...enter...select the lines...right click... Then left click on the bits you want rid of
Or
Put osnap on (bottom toolbar) and drag the point back and click to snap it where you want it
Bit hard to explain sometimes without being able to show you but does that help?
I'm unhappy cos I eat and I eat cos I'm unhappy

I take it you just a beginner?
Trim, extend (and offset) are the key functions in autocad, not much else you need when doing basic drawings.
Also break can be handy should you want to keep the line on both sides.
I like to use the fillet command (set to 0) to join 2 lines rather than entending/trimming.
As mentioned above try using osnap/tracking settings, especially when drawing the lines, this should allow you to 'join' them without
needing to go back over them again using trim/extend.
