Laptop advise
I would like a laptop/netbook to use in the car and to put in the top of my work toolbox.
I would prefer an Iphone etc but havent got the budget for an expensive phone so the laptop would be a better idea. I have been looking on fleebay and
have found a few older laptops/netbooks for under £100.
I would only be using it for the Net with a dongle/WIFI so a basic unit would do but how basic can you get that will be fine to use on the net?
Anyone got an ideas?
Whats the difference between a laptop and a netbook?
Thanks for your time.

Size I think, <12" net book >12" laptop
Probably wrong though!

Old Laptops are money down the drain, spend 200 quid on a new Netbook it will do anything you want to throw at it except be good at games.
Essentially a Netbook is smaller and has no built in DVD/CD drive.

i paid about 250 for a new hp 11.6" notebook. It does everything i need just fine, without a desktop, and its very portable too.
Coupled with a wireless mouse and keyboard, and an HDMI lead to the telly, it makes a good home computer too.
The dongle stuck out the side for internet is annoying though, esp in the van. Its asking to get knocked off. Apparently this model can have the sim
insterted internally though, which would be good if i get round to it.
Oh yeah, if you want a cd/dvd, just get an external one - £18 at the local shop.
You could never have a phone or ipad as your only internet source, but im doing ust fine on this with a £4 mobile - even for both thats a huge saving
over a fancy internet phone.

What are you going to use it for that an iphone would suffice ?
You don't need to buy an iphone to do all the stuff an iphone can do

The only thing I like about netbooks is battery life. I have an old Dell C640 (from about 2003?) laptop that I bought for £50 and formatted/installed
stripped down OS. It's boots in no time and can play, for example, CS:source fine. I can't stand the touchpad on my girlfriend's
Asus Eee, really awful, and no CD/DVD is a pain, and when you have to rig up an external device it gets annoying. I've used my laptop daily for
gaming, internet, megasquirt, DVD watching, cheap 12v adapter from ebay and can use it in the car.
