I know it a numpty mistake, but it is late!
Can anybody help me make this machine go backwards abouy 30minutes, please ?
The program is Microsoft Excel, if that helps and the pc is using windows XP Media Centre Edition.

Have you set it to Autosave? If so, you have a chance.
If not....

Have a look in the default folder that Exel saves stuff in for any odd looking file names, you might be lucky that one of them is a temporary exel
file. I think autosave is on by default.

Try:
C:\Documents and Settings\YOURNAME\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\
Might be lucky, I think the default autosave is 10 mins

I think that if you closed it properly, even without saving, it deletes the autosave files

Anyone care to have a bet on what I will be doing in the morning ( after re-submitting these results) ?
