optimising laptop performance
Hi Guys,
I have just bought solidworks for my laptop so i can have a mess around/ do uni work with it. My laptop is fairly high spec (4gb ram, 500gb HD, dual
core, acer aspire). But having had it for coming up to 2 years im sure its not as fast anymore as i could be, and now im going to be doing some
solidworks things on it i want to make sure its running like it should and not slowing me down when doing modelling.
Can anyone recomend anything that i can easily do to wipe any of the crap off the comp and generally get the speed up a bit.
Cheers Guys

What OS are you running? If you look on youtube for tweaks (e.g XP tweaks) there will be guides on things to make your computer faster

you really won't find a speed increase from just deleting things. as it's 2 years old then it could do with a reinstall of windows, but
that's hassle. If it's not broke, don't fix it. a dual core with 4gig of ram is plenty for solidworks unless you're doing huge
assemblies; in which case you'll be going for a desktop!

All depends on what you are modelling and how.

you could get a 64bit OS. You won't use all your 4gig of ram on a 32bit OS. You'll use anywhere between 3.2 and about 3.7 gig

is that relatively simple to do? Does it cost to change it or is it the same basic OS?

you need to buy a new one. i would suggest you just try using it then come back with specific problems. you shouldn't need to do anything to
your laptop with those specs.
just remember to back up. if you want to get a new OS then you can download it or you can order a student copy, which will be abou 30 quid or so
