iPad cheaper alternative?

I was going to buy an iPad mainly to use reading books when lounging around (as one does) but am not familiar with Apple software even though I use and love my iPhone. Really I like windows stuff 'cos I spent years getting familiar with it.

What is the best 10" or so wireless (not 3g) tablet I can get for two or three hundred or so? Also is it east to add/change memory on them? (i.e. should I buy one with the largest memory?)

The ipad uses iOS - the same os as your iphone, not the apple desktop/laptop os OSX so it'll be pretty familiar. The latest ipad2 has just come out in the states - will be in the uk in acouple of weeks, so you may get an 'ipad1' at a reasonable price if you look around.
Review of the ipad2 is on this link - compares some variables like battery life with the xoom/galaxy tab/dell streak etc

utter rubbish

underpowered and poor support for updated android versions.

same as the epad

stick with a decent manufacturer htc, samsung etc..

but then you'll find they are similarly priced to the ipad.

I like the idea of an ipad for mapping my engine but all of my software is Windows based - does anyone know if it will run on an emulator or something?

If your main use is going to be reading books, why not get a Kindle? They start at £111 and are very good at what they do, easy to use and light.

Thanks for all the replies chaps it is much appreciated. I think in reflection that in these markets you do get what you are paying for.

It seems a waste to buy a Kindle as that's all it does and for another hundred or so I can get more functionality.

My only reservation with the iPad is it is not fully compatible with other pc stuff - not a prob with a phone but with a bigger screen I expect more. Otherwise its perfect

I'll check out HTC Samsung as suggested buy really do not know what to look for!

Cheers!

P.S. I was changing avatar and using URL address until I twigged it wanted the img data - the air was blue with frustration!
